HALFWAY TO HALLOWEEN: SLASHERS FOR THE SUMMER
SLUMBER PARTY MASSACRE
AMY HOLDEN JONES
1982

High school girls basketball team sleepover, with pizza and drinks. What could go wrong!
Only a crazy man with a power drill!
Don't underestimate the female directed horror films of the 1980s, the messages are all there.
TERRIFIER 2
DAMIEN LEONE
2022

Definitely do not watch with children, unless you plan on expecting the most questionable and chaotic Halloween of your life.
An absolute fountain of gore — the treasure practical effects.
Don't forget the salt!
YOU'RE NEXT
ADAM WINGARD
2011

Arguably the most prepared final girl in history. A great story, kills, and characters.
Overall, just an extremely fun watch for any occasion.
PROM NIGHT
PAUL LYNCH
1980

A classic tale of high schoolers now reaping the consequences of their actions years later.
However, this film does have a wicked dance number from Jamie Lee Curtis.
SLEEPAWAY CAMP
ROBERT HILTZIK
1983

What's better than a horror film about a summer camp full of sudden and bizarre acts of violence? Perhaps that the sequels, Sleepaway Camp II: Unhappy Campers (1988) and Sleepaway Camp III: Teenage Wasteland (1989) star Pamela Springsteen, sister to Bruce Springsteen.
Except campers "Dancing in the Dark" only leads to brutal murder. A cult classic with crazy twists!
FRIDAY THE 13TH
SEAN S. CUNNINGHAM
1980

Undoubtedly the summer version of John Carpenter's Halloween (1978).
Always a fun watch, check out its sequels too!
I promise Jason grows up.
I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER
JIM GILLESPIE
1997

A group of teenagers accidentally kill someone. They "incorrectly" dispose of the body and are now being followed by a guys with a hook for a hand.
Although the go-to 90s slasher would probably be Wes Craven's Scream (1996). This film has a great cast of early stars.
Think of it like Scooby-Doo, except the Mystery Machine violently killed someone and they're definitely not getting away with it.
